Wellness Health and Life Experiences Study

The purpose of our study is to understand how early life experiences can affect brain development in children.

Age & Gender

  • 4 years ~ 99 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)
  • Weekend hours, if needed

Location

North Carolina (Alamance, Chatham, Cumberland, Durham, Guilford, Harnett, Johnston, Orange, Wake)

What will be asked of you

Participation in this study will include 3 visits. The first visit will take place at your home or current place of residence, and will last approx. 2.5 hours. The second visit will take place in Howell Hall on UNC's campus and last approx. 6 hours. The third visit includes a MRI and will last 3 hours. During all three visits we will ask you to fill out questionnaires/surveys, and your child will be playing games with research assistants.

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • You live within a 1 hour radius from UNC Chapel Hill

Not eligible if:

  • Your child has participated in the Child Experiences Study at UNC
  • Your child has a diagnosis of autism or a pervasive developmental disorder
