Early Stage Breast Cancer Study (CAMERAN)

The aim of this study is to learn more about the quality of life and cancer outcomes in low-risk elderly breast cancer patients. Participants in this study will be randomly assigned to either accelerated partial breast irradiation or endocrine therapy. Both treatment options have been widely used.

What will be asked of you

Patients will be asked to complete up to 3 sets of questionnaires. The study consists of 2 different treatments. Group 1 will be randomly assigned to receive accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) alone. This will include radiation delivered every other day to location of your lumpectomy. Group 2 will receive endocrine therapy for 5 years or more.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

You are 65 years with de novo invasive carcinoma of breast

Not eligible if:

You will have pre- or post-operative systemic chemotherapy while in this study.
You are currently undergoing treatment with anti-hormonal agents
You are on hormonal replacement therapy
You have a multicentric tumor
