Move with Support - "Muevete con Apoyo!

The purpose of this research study is to understand how a physical activity program for family members and friends can help improve their physical activity and possibly improve the symptoms of Hispanics/Latinos with osteoarthritis.

What will be asked of you

You and a family member or friend will be asked to take part in a physical activity program where you will support each other's activity. You will receive a Fitbit and a self-paced walking workbook, and a journal. You will complete surveys electronically at the beginning and end of the study. You'll also take notes about your experiences throughout the study in your journal. About a week after you finish the program, there will be a group meeting to talk about your experience. There is also an optional interview for participants who speak Spanish.

14.5 weeks

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • You identify as Hispanic/Latino
  • You have osteoarthritis or have you been told by a doctor that you have osteoarthritis
  • You exercise less than 2.5 hours per week
  • You have someone willing to support you with your physical activity. This person will be asked to join the study.
  • You are able to walk without assistance

Not eligible if:

  • You cannot from perform physical activity due to a health condition
  • You have had a recent surgery or injury to your hips and/or knees
  • You have other arthritis conditions and/or inflammatory conditions
  • You are currently participating in other programs for osteoarthritis and/or physical activity
  • You do not have regular internet/email access

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • You exercise less than 2.5 hours per week
  • You are able to walk without assistance
  • You are 16 years of age or older
  • You are enrolling to support the physical activity of a Hispanic family member or friend with osteoarthritis

Not eligible if:

  • You cannot from perform physical activity due to a health conditionYou cannot from perform physical activity due to a health condition
