UNC Childhood, Adolescent, and Young Adult Cancer Registry

This is a registry of childhood, adolescent, and young adult patients with cancer. This registry is for anyone diagnosed with cancer before the age of 40 years to establish a UNC-based resource for the prospective study of the long-term, treatment-related effects, particularly the early aging effects, of cancer and its treatment.

Age & Gender

  • 1 years ~ 39 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Visits can be combined with regular clinical appointments

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

At each visit, we may ask questions about your health, your physical function, emotional well-being, and symptoms. We may also perform tests to measure your muscle strength and draw blood. If you agree, we will store some blood for future research studies about chemotherapy, pediatric or young adult cancers, and other young adult health conditions.

In-person visits:
4+ at the same time as already scheduled visits
Phone or online visits:
Annual follow ups could be by phone or online
Total length of participation:
indefinitely

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • You are between 1-39 years old
  • You have had or are being treated for cancer
  • You speak English or Spanish

Not eligible if:

  • You are uncomfortable answering questionnaires about your cancer and quality of life
  • Unable or unwilling to provide blood samples
  • Unable or unwilling to perform some simple physical assessments
