TrialNet Pathway to Prevention Study

When one person in a family has Type 1 Diabetes (T1D), the risk of developing T1D increases for others members of the family. Researchers are conducting testing to determine if a person is at risk for developing T1D at the time of testing.

Age & Gender

  • 2 years ~ 45 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Visits can be combined with regular clinical appointments

What will be asked of you

You will be asked to review and present any questions about the Consent documents and study procedures. If you agree (or agree for your child) to participate, a small sample of blood (1 tablespoon or less) will be collected to test for Type 1 Diabetes autoantibodies. You will also be asked to complete demographics and family history questionnaires. Remote testing kits are available upon request.

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • Be aged 2 to 45 years and a sibling, offspring, or parent of an individual with T1D
  • Be aged 2 to 20 years and a niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, grandchild, cousin, or half sibling of an individual with T1D
  • Those without a family member with T1D: have 1 or more positive islet antibodies from previous lab testing outside of TrialNet

Not eligible if:

  • Diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes
  • Not willing to have traditional blood draw or fingerstick blood sample collected
  • Not willing to provide informed consent for yourself or permission for your child
