FLASH study

The purpose of this project is to adapt and confirm a tool is effective for measuring change in communication for young children on the autism spectrum.

Age & Gender

  • 12 months ~ 60 months
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)
  • Weekend hours, if needed
  • In-home visits available

Location

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

At each visit, you will do a brief play-based activity with your child. At some visits, your child will participate in developmental assessments and/or play-based activities with a researcher. You may be asked to complete questionnaires before or after visits.

Incentives

$100 for initial with additional compensation for other study activities ($50 for initial for neurotypical group with additional compensation for other study activities), Assessment information about your child if child is diagnosed as part of study

2 weeks to 1 year (varies)

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • Your child has a diagnosis or suspected diagnosis of autism
  • Your child is under 5 years of age

Not eligible if:

  • Your child is over 5 years of age

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • Your child is between 9 and 42 months of age

Not eligible if:

  • Your child is over 42 months of age
  • Your child has a developmental or language delay OR you are concerned about a developmental or language delay
  • Your child has a sibling or parent diagnosed with autism
