Children with Hearing Loss Sleep Study

The purpose of the study is to examine sleep in school-age children with hearing loss who experience fatigue.

Age & Gender

  • 6 years ~ 12 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Visits can be combined with regular clinical appointments

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

During the in-person visit, you will meet with a member of the study team and fill out questionnaires. The study involves wearing a sleep-wake tracking watch for 1 week and willingness to complete daily sleep logs during the 1-week period. You will be asked to mail back the sleep-wake tracking watch at the end of the study using a prepaid mail bag.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • Your child currently has a diagnosed hearing loss
  • Your child has completed hearing testing at a UNC clinic in the past year

Not eligible if:

  • Your child has a known sleep disorder

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • Your child has no known hearing difficulties or diagnosed hearing loss

Not eligible if:

  • Your child has a known sleep disorder
