This study explores the growing culture of migration in remote, rural communities in Nepal. Based on the Aspirations and Capabilities framework (de Haas, 2021), we examine how gender, age, and household dynamics influence people's perception of their local community, their goals or dreams, and, subsequently, their migration aspirations and abilities. We will interview multiple members from ten households across two districts of Western Nepal to understand what migration represents to them, how they conceptualize the future based on perceptions of 'here' and 'there', and how gender, age, caste, and class influence the way they understand choice and freedom to migrate or to stay.

The purpose of this research study is to understand how Karen housekeepers at UNC use produce grown by the Carolina Community Garden. We are interested in what vegetables you eat, if you have preferences for new varieties, and how you cook them. We are also interested in the social activities that accompany the cooking and eating of this produce. For example, with whom do you eat regularly? Who cooks in your household? Do you eat with non-family members?
