SCD-CARRE

To test the effect of automated RBC exchange transfusion and standard of care compared with standard of care on the number of episodes of clinical worsening of sickle cell disease (SCD)requiring acute health care encounters (non-elective infusion center/ER/Hospital visits) or resulting in death over 12 months in high risk adult SCD patients.

Alzheimer's Disease and Other Related Dementias- Palliative Care Program

The purpose of this research study is to develop the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias Palliative Care (ADRD-PC) program for persons with late-stage ADRD and their family members during a hospitalization. For patients, we aim to learn if this program of dementia-specific palliative is effective to reduce hospital transfers, improve symptom treatment, supplement supportive services and reduce nursing home transitions. For family members, we aim to improve communication with clinicians, shared decision-making and decrease distress.

Study of the Tsunami Aftermath and Recovery (STAR)

We are studying how exposure to a natural disaster, the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, affects population health over time. For fifteen years we have been interviewing a group of people who were part of a government survey before the tsunami, in 2004. Our goal is to understand the evolution of well-being after a disaster and how government and private assistance programs affect people.
