Aligning facility leadership and climate to advance mental health services integration in Malawi (ALIGN): Formative Research

The purpose of this research study is to better understand how to adapt a multi-level leadership coaching implementation strategy called Leadership and Organizational Change for Implementation (LOCI). This will help us understand how to better integrate mental health treatments into medical care. We will interview those involved in health care and district health decisions to understand the context of mental health care in Malawi and how we can adapt LOCI to best serve Malawian health leaders.

Delirium Tele-medicine Validation Study

We don't know whether discharging patients with active delirium (aka confusion) home is appropriate. Returning patients to their home may lead to improvement and quicker delirium resolution. Alternately, it may be harmful as delirious patients may not be able to appropriately care for themselves in the home environment or follow discharge instructions. Consequently, they may get sicker, requiring hospital readmission or worse. Currently, there is no good way to assess delirium in the home setting. This greatly limits the ability to monitor and study this vulnerable population. The ability to perform in-home delirium assessments will prove invaluable to researchers investigating the a-propriateness of discharging actively delirious patients' home versus keeping them in the hospital until resolution of their delirium. Further, it will provide a method for clinicians to perform quick, remote delirium assessments of their patients.

Cardiovascular workout for Depression, Stress, and Anxiety

The goal of this study is to examine the relationship between mental health concerns (e.g., anxiety, depression, and stress) and PAUSE-Cardio, a 6-week moderate-intensity cardiovascular exercise intervention program for women's sport student-athletes transitioning into college and collegiate sport. Under Purposeful, Authentic, and Unifying Student-Athlete Experiences (PAUSE) programming, this study is a cardiovascular comparison intervention with matched aims and methods to the ACC-CRIA funded PAUSE-Yoga study. This longitudinal study examines the feasibility and effectiveness of PAUSE-Cardio to mitigate anxiety, depression, and stress.

Land Back Abolition Project

This project seeks to study the history and present impacts of UNC on surrounding communities. The purpose is to understand the impact that the university has had historically and in the present, for instance on Native communities whose land UNC resides on (or has profited from the sale of), and people who were enslaved from or who otherwise have contributed or contribute now to the building and maintenance of the university. This will be part of the classes of Danielle Purifoy and Sara Smith, where students will take up questions generated by community members. It will also include undergraduate and graduate students who wish to participate.
