In Aim 1, we will use existing research and expert review to develop new text and pictorial LCC warnings and test the new warnings using online experiments to identify warnings that adult LCC users perceive as most effective. The proposed study will fill critical gaps regarding which characteristics make LCC warning labels most effective and provide needed evidence on how LCC warnings influence LCC behavioral intentions. Our overarching goal is to develop effective LCC warnings that reduce cancer and other health risks.
This study is examining Medicaid "unwinding", which refers to the process occurring nationwide of states resuming eligibility redeterminations for Medicaid enrollees after three years of continuous pandemic-related coverage protections. Over 15 million people are estimated to lose Medicaid coverage through this process, with nearly half still remaining eligible but facing administrative barriers to renew their coverage. This study focuses specifically on North Carolina's experiences with unwinding, utilizing a case study approach. The study aims to explore the factors shaping North Carolina's response, challenges encountered, and outcomes thus far. It also examines potential solutions to strengthen Medicaid policy for future redeterminations.
he purpose of Parents and Infants Inter(X)action Intervention (PIXI) is to study ways of supporting the early development of infants diagnosed with rare neurogenetic disorders in their first year of life. PIXI is funded by the John Merck Fund and is led by RTI International (RTI) in collaboration with researchers at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. The team includes neurodevelopmental psychologists, early interventionists, and experts in neurogenetic conditions (e.g., fragile X syndrome, Angelman syndrome), autism spectrum disorder, and early childhood development. The goal of PIXI is to provide developmental and behavioral support for infants with rare neurogenetic disorders through a two-phase targeted parent-mediated intervention program.
This pilot project will test a new wearable device which will monitor elbow motion in people who are recovering from stroke.
Collect a bank of respiratory samples from pediatric patients with airway infection, particularly viral infection. Analysis of these samples should help us develop new treatments for airway infection in children.
The purpose of this study is to understand tobacco retailers' perceptions about the implications of retail-based policies for their business and assess feasibility of conducting interviews with tobacco retailers.
The purpose of this research study is to understand how the monitoring of Patient-Reported Outcomes (PROs) could help improve surgical care for patients undergoing chest surgeries. PROs are symptoms directly reported by patients through the completion of a survey.
Hand osteoarthritis is a common cause of hand pain and often does not require referral to rheumatology. With the anticipated workforce shortage of rheumatologists, referral trends to rheumatology for osteoarthritis need to be further evaluated. We will be conducting online surveys with UNC healthcare providers to gauge their understanding and comfort in diagnosing and managing patients with hand osteoarthritis. This will include short hand osteoarthritis video recordings covering various aspects including diagnosis, differential diagnosis, management, prognosis and appropriate referral procedures to rheumatology. This data will provide us information about comfort level in diagnosis, management and understand referral patterns from primary care providers.
To use a human centered design process to partner with community co-designers to understand how mentorship within a developmentally positive environment supports the mediators of reflection, belonging, and meaning-making to increase neurodiverse students' self-advocacy, self-perception, self-purpose, and ultimately in service of promoting academic performance, thriving and well-being. The purpose of our project is to explore how the components of metacognition play a unique part in shaping the psychological and social landscape of young individuals with learning differences. Our study will examine how the effective application of these assets can transcend theatre arts through STEAM environments to support diverse learners with continuity throughout their learning experience.
This study has two objectives. The first is to determine how authentic assessment is currently used in dental school curriculums. The second is to assess what potential barriers might limit the implementation of authentic assessment in more courses. Course directors will be surveyed on their use and barriers to use of authentic assessment to address these objectives.
