Drug Induced Liver Injury Study

Liver injury due to prescription and non-prescription medication is medical, scientific, and public health problem of increasing frequency and importance in United States. Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is the most common reason the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) would choose not to approve a new drug or withdraw a drug from the market. However, drug-induced liver injuries are often under-reported and difficult to detect/diagnose. This study seeks to learn more about these drug-induced liver injuries and develop better ways to detect, define, and study drug-induced liver injuries. The study will be looking at new cases of drug-induced liver injury, as well as gathering data on previous drug-induced liver injury (up to January 1, 1994).

Assessing Domestic Violence Intervention Programs in the United States: Identifying Strengths, Weaknesses, and a Path Towards Restorative Justice

Domestic violence intervention programs (DVIPs), also known as batterer intervention programs (BIPs), are court-mandated and self-referred programs designed to address domestic violence perpetration through psycho-educational approaches and/or cognitive behavioral therapy. By building on the extant evidence base and conducting formative research, we will identify DVIPs that have demonstrated effectiveness and innovative practices, including the utilization of restorative justice frameworks, and assess their curricula, service delivery approaches, partnerships, and administrative structures. We will use this information as the basis to determine DVIP best practices, with the goal of improved outcomes in mitigating domestic violence.

NC Foster Parents: Oral Health Knowledge and Barriers

Foster children are a vulnerable population in the US. One study found that youth who have a history of foster care had higher levels of oral health issues and less access to dental care compared with children who do not have a history of foster care. The purpose of this study is to learn the knowledge, attitudes, and experiences of foster caregivers in North Carolina and how dental care and oral health behaviors of their foster children are affected as a result of these factors. With this information, oral health interventions for the foster care community can be created.

Language Access in Primary Care Clinics

This project proposes to conduct a needs assessment of Arabic-speaking patients who visit the UNC Family Medicine Center at Chapel Hill to refine existing peri-visit communication workflows.
