Education Methods for Pathogen Reduced Platelets

The study purpose is to evaluate laboratory professionals' perception of the effectiveness of education methods in preparing laboratory professionals to understand, implement, and educate other members of the patient care team on the technology and product/processing changes involved in implementing Pathogen Reduction Technology (PRT) treated products, specifically PRT treated platelets. This is important because PRTs role is continuing to grow and develop in transfusion medicine. As with any change or development within the field, education must be provided and prioritized as policies and procedures are updated to reflect those developments and the evolution of the best practices. Given the professional responsibility to properly handle the product and serve as a resource for patient care teams, it is imperative to determine if laboratory professionals are being effectively prepared to handle implementation of new products and processes as they develop.
