The virus that causes COVID-19 disease infects many people, but only some get sick. We want to understand how COVID affects the immune system and what makes severe COVID infections different from other diseases that cause hospitalization and breathing problems. We collect samples of blood, sputum, urine, and stool from patients in the hospital to learn how COVID affects cells and molecules of the immune system.

This study focuses on how communities near the coast deal with frequent but shallow flooding. We focus on small towns in Carteret County, NC, where families have lived for a long time. We want to talk to residents here to understand how they see their quality of life changing as flooding increases. We also want to see if their tolerance for this type of flooding changes depending on how bad it is and which areas are affected. By talking to residents and modeling flooding, we hope to characterize how livable this place may be in the future considering these floods.

The purpose of this study is to create new ways to prevent heart disease that help people, specifically African-Americans, access resources to live a healthy life using a "whole person" approach to cardiovascular disease and social needs, especially in high-need communities.

Health care professionals across the state are invited to apply to participate in the Maternal Mental Health Fellowship. There are two main aims of this study. The first aim is to describe rates of jaw pain symptoms in patients who have root canal treatment. The second aim is to test whether a short questionnaire can identify patients with jaw pain.
