This study focuses on how communities near the coast deal with frequent but shallow flooding. We focus on small towns in Carteret County, NC, where families have lived for a long time. We want to talk to residents here to understand how they see their quality of life changing as flooding increases. We also want to see if their tolerance for this type of flooding changes depending on how bad it is and which areas are affected. By talking to residents and modeling flooding, we hope to characterize how livable this place may be in the future considering these floods.

Recent updates to the clinical practice guidelines of the American Heart Association (AHA) and US Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF), now recommend against the use of aspirin for primary prevention in older adults due to the associated bleeding risks. Moreover, it is estimated that 25-40% of older adults continue routine aspirin consumption without evidence-based clinical indications. Using the emergency department as a platform to evaluate patients' perspectives on discontinuing aspirin in scenarios where the risks or potential drawbacks surpass the benefits. This assessment takes into account the patient's care objectives, existing functionality, life expectancy, values, and preferences.

The primary purpose of this research study is to learn about how the level of a protein called p16 changes in the blood of children, adolescents, and adults with sickle cell disease. This protein can provide information about cellular aging which has not been studied before in patients with sickle cell disease. This can help develop future areas of research into sickle cell disease.
The Currituck Sound is a unique coastal system of numerous habitats and relatively low salinity levels which allow for it to support diverse wildlife recreational opportunities, and other important ecosystem services. However, due to various anthropogenic factors, the sound is facing multiple threats such as sea level rise, erosion, and nutrient loading. In order to protect the sound, the Currituck Sound Coalition was formed and it now works to restore the sound. This research project will look at Currituck Sound Coalition members' perceptions of the Sound, its components, processes, and how they interact. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted to create members' mental models of the Sound. Models will be analyzed for differences and similarities.
Phase I user testing will occur at multiple different types of food retail venues (DFACS, commissary, food trucks), with assistance from our food retail partners at WAMC, 18th Airborne Corps, and Fort Liberty Commissary. The main goal is to get feedback about the geofencing and interactive food environment app experience in a sample of customers.
We are studying how exposure to a natural disaster, the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, affects population health over time. For fifteen years we have been interviewing a group of people who were part of a government survey before the tsunami, in 2004. Our goal is to understand the evolution of well-being after a disaster and how government and private assistance programs affect people.
