Asthma Prevention

This is a research study to learn if an oral capsule can prevent or reduce asthma or wheezing illness in young children with known risk factors.

Age & Gender

  • 5 months ~ 17 months
  • Male, Female

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)

Location

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

Participants in this study will receive either the study medication or placebo (does not contain active medicine). At each visit, you will meet with a member of the study team and complete some questionnaires and a physical exam. During the study, we will also draw some blood, do a nasal swab, a stool sample and do some tests to learn about your child's lung function.

Incentives

$120 for first two visits, $100 for remaining study visits and $20 for each completed phone calls., Lab results

Total length of participation : 3 years

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • Baby with a diagnosis of eczema
  • Mom or dad with history of asthma
  • Sibling age 4 or older diagnosed with asthma

Not eligible if:

  • Was born premature (<36 weeks gestation)
  • Already been diagnosed with asthma
  • Has a chronic lung disease
