UNC Neuroimaging Study

This 2-part study explores the connection between adolescent alcohol use, behavioral flexibility, and brain connectivity.

Age & Gender

  • 22 years ~ 40 years
  • Male, Female

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)
  • Weekend hours, if needed

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

Visit 1: you will meet with a member of the study team for an in-person eligibility screen. You will need to pass both a urine drug screen and an alcohol breath test to continue participation. You will then fill out some paper questionnaires and be trained in our 3 computerized behavioral tasks. At the end of the session we will collect 2 saliva samples. After visit 1 and before visit 2 you will be asked to complete a series of online questionnaires. For visit 2 you will do the testing portions of our computer tasks before a 2 hour MRI scan.

Incentives

A baseline of $15 per hour (about 6 hours total)

Total length of participation : 3 weeks

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • Age 22-40
  • Right-handed
  • Native English Speaker
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Not claustrophobic

Not eligible if:

  • Neurological or Psychiatric Disorder
  • Psychoactive Medication USe
  • Illicit Drug Use
  • Permanent retainer behind upper teeth
  • Electrically, magnetically, or mechanically activated implants
