LCCC 1855/MASCOT: Manufacturing and Analysis of Stem Cells from Skin Cells for Ovarian Cancer Treatment

The purpose of this research study is to test if researchers can create personalized stem cells from the skin of ovarian cancer patients and see if these cells can attack cancer cells. Stem cell therapy is a promising approach to treating ovarian cancer.

  • Visits can be combined with regular clinical appointments

What will be asked of you

As part of this study, the following will be collected: •Skin samples and tissue taken during your standard of care surgery; •Blood samples; and clinical information from your medical records

Incentives

You will receive a $25 gift card for taking part in this study

In-person visits:
4-6
Total length of participation:
up to 2 years

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • you have a suspected clinical diagnosis of ovarian cancer, which requires surgical intervention
  • you are undergoing surgery for suspected ovarian cancer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill per standard of care treatment
  • you are willing to provide 2 x 6mm skin biopsies at time of surgery; to provide extra tumor tissue for research and to give
  • you are willing and capable of providing informed consent, recognize the experimental nature of the trial, and sign the IRB-approved written consent documentations
  • you have accessible medical records for all treatment data

Not eligible if:

  • you undergone radiation therapy of the abdominal region within one year of sample collection
  • you are unwilling to provide skin, blood, and tumor tissue for research participation
  • you have dementia, altered mental status, or any psychiatric or co-morbid condition prohibiting the understanding or rendering of informed consent
