Brain Research on Mood

Your mood affects how you react to daily events, and how you react to daily events affects your mood. We want to understand the details of the two-way connection between mood and reactions to good and bad events. We hope this will help us better understand why people with certain mental disorders have persistently low or unstable mood.

Age & Gender

  • 18 years ~ 45 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

Every day for 4 weeks, you will complete brief games on a smartphone while your brain and heart activity are monitored (you can do this from home). You will also complete an MRI scan, an in-depth personality interview, and some questionnaires.

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • You are interested in psychology and brain research
  • You are willing to complete an MRI scan

Not eligible if:

  • You weigh more than 250 pounds
