Study on knee osteoarthritis and pain

The purpose of this study is to understand how pain and weakness due to knee osteoarthritis affect inflammation and quadriceps muscle function during walking.

45 years ~ 79 years
Male, Female

Visit Availability

Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)
Weekend hours, if needed

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

During your visit, you will perform several quadriceps strength tests and you will walk on a treadmill. We will record your body motion and take ultrasound images of your thigh muscle. This study also involves 2 blood draws.

$10 per hour

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

you have knee osteoarthritis
you can walk without an assistive aid (e.g. walker or cane)
you are between the ages of 45-79

Not eligible if:

you have a history of neuromuscular disease
you have had a knee joint replacement
you have an autoimmune disease

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

you can walk without an assistive aid (e.g. walker or cane)
you are between the ages of 45-79

Not eligible if:

you have a history of neuromuscular disease
you have had a knee joint replacement
you have an autoimmune disease
you have been diagnosed with or suspect you have knee osteoarthritis
