Menopause and Heart Health Study

In this study, we want to learn how mood and stress may affect the risk for heart disease in women during menopause.

Age & Gender

  • 44 years ~ 55 years
  • Female

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)

Location

North Carolina (Alamance, Durham, Orange, Wake)

What will be asked of you

If you decide to take part, we will ask you to complete 3 study visits. The first visit is a Zoom or WebEx call to make sure you are able to take part. During the second visit, we will ask you to take questionnaires and do some tests that will help us measure your stress. We will also collect saliva and blood samples and monitor your heart rate. At the final visit, we will set up a phone call with the study team to check in.

Participation may be as short as 4 days or up to one month.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • You are a woman between ages 44-55
  • You are in the early perimenopausal or early postmenopausal transition as determined based upon menstrual cycle history
  • You have or do not have depression
  • Generally, in good health
  • Experiencing menopausal symptoms (e.g. hot flashes, night sweats, joint pain)

Not eligible if:

  • You have a history of bipolar disorder or schizophrenia
  • You abuse alcohol or substances
  • You use cigarettes or nicotine
  • You currently or recently have used birth control or hormone therapy
  • You have been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease
