Brain Activity of Psychotherapy for Depression

In this study, we examine the brain activity of therapists and client during a single session intervention for depression symptoms.

Age & Gender

  • 18 years ~ 30 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

Once you are enrolled, you will be asked to complete some questionnaires. Then you will come to 1 in-person appointment where you will receive one, one hour of a psychosocial intervention for depression symptoms. During that visit, we will record non-invasive measurements of your brain, heart, and breathing rhythm. You will also be asked to complete some questionnaires. After your study visit, there will be online questionnaires at two weeks and one month.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • If you experience depression symptoms
  • You are 18-30 years old
  • You are a full-time student (undergraduate, graduate, professional)

Not eligible if:

  • Initiated psychotherapy for a mental health condition in the past month (30 days/4 weeks).
  • You recently started medication for a mental health condition
  • You have been diagnosed with autism or a psychotic disorder
  • Currently experience suicidal thoughts or have a history of suicidal behaviors
