EFFEKTOR Study for Kidney Transplant Recipents

A drug called Finerenone has been used in patients with chronic kidney disease to help slow damage to the kidneys and prevent cardiac (heart) events. Researchers would like to study the effects of Finerenone in people who have had a kidney transplant.

What will be asked of you

You will be required to take 1 tablet of finerenone or placebo once daily. You will be asked to provide blood and urine samples and to fill out a questionnaire at each in-person study visit. Vital sings (pulse, blood pressure) will be collected at each-visit. An electrocardiogram (a test to see how your heart works) will be performed several times throughout the study. You may also be asked to provide a piece of kidney tissue collected by kidney biopsy.

Incentives

$35 for each in-person visit; $250 for biopsy visit.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

You had a kidney transplant in the last 6 months - 10 years
You have stable kidney function
You would be willing to consider a kidney biopsy

Not eligible if:

You have recurrent lupus, ANCA vaculisitis, or membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis
You are the recipient of another organ transplant that was not a kidney.
You have had dialysis in the last 6 months.
You have uncontrolled blood pressure.
