Hamstring Vibration and Following ACL Injury

The purpose of this study is to determine if vibration applied to the hamstrings improves muscle function and movement characteristics in individuals who have undergone anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgical reconstruction using a hamstring tendon graft. *This study is a collaboration with the UNC Sports Medicine Institute*

  • 18 years ~ 35 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)
  • Weekend hours, if needed

What will be asked of you

At each study visit you will be asked to report to the laboratory on the UNC-Chapel Hill campus. During these sessions we will assess the function (strength, for example) of your hamstrings muscles as well as the movements of your legs while jumping off a box. You will also be asked to complete two brief questionnaires regarding your knee.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • You have undergone ACL reconstruction surgery using a hamstring tendon graft within the past 9 months to 5 years
  • You are between the ages of 18-35 years.
  • You have been cleared by your surgeon to return to unrestricted physical activity.

Not eligible if:

  • You have experienced multiple ACL injuries to the same knee or ACL injuries in both of your knees.
  • You have experienced an injury in either of your legs during the past 6 months.
  • You have undergone surgery in either leg other than ACL reconstruction surgery.
  • You have a neurological disorder such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, or cerebral palsy.
  • You are currently pregnant.
