We study how immune cells sense and respond to viruses and bacteria. Volunteers donate up to 4 tablespoons of blood to help us understand how the immune system protects us from infection without damaging organs like the lungs, heart, and kidneys.
At each visit, you will be asked some simple questions to ensure that you haven't been sick recently and don't take medications that impair your immune system. Blood will be drawn from a vein in your elbow, upper arm, or wrist -- this is about 50cc or 3.5 tablespoons. When the blood draw is done we'll apply gauze and a band-aid. We will ask you to remain seated for a few minutes afterwards to make sure you're not dizzy after giving blood.
