Southeastern Consortium for Lung Cancer Health Equity

To initiate and evaluate a multilevel navigation intervention to promote lung cancer screening among Black/African Americans and to develop a population-based biorepository for future research in understanding biological risk factors for poor lung cancer outcomes among Black/African Americans

What will be asked of you

Participation in this study would involve two phone calls with the research team to 1) review the informed consent and 2) answer questions regarding your medical history and your family's history of lung cancer. These calls would take about 15 minutes each. You would also be asked to give a sample of your saliva (spit) that the researchers would collect in person or by sending you a tube through the mail. You would return the tube through the mail with a pre-stamped envelope provided by the researchers.

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • You are Black/African American
  • You previously completed or are currently scheduled for lung cancer screening
  • You have a 20 pack-year smoking history (Example: you smoked 1 pack per day for 20 years)
  • You are a current smoker or have quit smoking within the past 15 years

Not eligible if:

  • You have a history of cancer (not including squamous cell skin cancer) in the past 5 years
