Lung and Head/Neck Cancer Registry

This is an observational study is to create a biobank of blood and tissue samples connected to a registry of medical information, including genetic, general health, and disease information. This archive will allow for important lung and head and neck research to be done and will serve as a resource for future research.

Age & Gender

  • 18 years ~ 99 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Visits can be combined with regular clinical appointments

What will be asked of you

You will be asked to provide researchers with biospecimens depending on your standard of care treatment and availability of specimens. This may include tumor tissue, pleural (a thin layer of tissue that covers the lungs and lines the interior wall of the chest cavity) fluid, nasal scraping, blood, urine, or tumor-adjacent samples. You will also be asked to provide tissue that may be stored from previous standard of care procedure and clinical information from your medical records.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • You have been diagnosed with or suspected to have lung or head and neck cancer
  • You have an upcoming appointment with UNC pulmonology, ENT, oncology, thoracic surgery, or radiation oncology for work-up, management, or confirmation of lung or head/neck cancer
  • You are willing to provide tissue, blood, or other specimens to research
  • You are willing to undergo safe specimen sampling for clinical purposes

Not eligible if:

  • You have any serious medical or psychiatric disorder that would interfere with your ability to give informed consent
  • You have a concurrent medical condition or comorbidity factor
