Understanding Sickle Cell Trait

This study focuses on individuals with sickle cell trait (SCT) to see if their hemoglobin S levels have any effects on red blood cells, blood clotting, or kidney function.

Age & Gender

  • 18 years ~ 65 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)

What will be asked of you

Study Discussion and Consent: We will go over the study with you, and if you decide to join, you will sign a consent form. Initial Sickle Trait Test: A quick finger stick will be used to check for sickle cell trait. Blood Samples: If the test shows sickle cell trait, we will collect blood samples for lab tests. Follow-up blood samples will be needed one year and two years after the first test.

Incentives

$10 gift card for initial consent and trait test; $25 gift cards for subsequent blood draws

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • adults between the age of 18 and 65
  • known or suspected sickle cell trait

Not eligible if:

  • under 18 years of age
  • over 65 years of age
  • do not have sickle trait
  • do not wish to have blood drawn
