Telehealth Weight Loss Intervention

The purpose of this research study is to identify the best initial treatment for achieving weight loss in older adults aged 65─85 years with obesity and multiple medical conditions. We will also investigate how to adapt the weight loss plan for those who struggle to lose weight after the first two months (8-weeks) of participation

  • 65 years ~ 85 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)
  • Weekend hours, if needed

Location

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

We will ask you to complete some measures to assess your physical function, diet, perform bloodwork, and assess your muscle and fat mass using a special x-ray technique at these in-person visits. The other visits will be group-based, online visits (via video-conferencing) and you will interact with either a health coach, dietitian, or physical therapist.

Incentives

up to $360, chance to learn, fight disease, minimal traveling, chance to improve well-being, results from the study, how your body changes with weight loss,

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • Obesity (body mass index >30)
  • weight stable for 12-weeks
  • 2 or more chronic medical conditions
  • living independently at home

Not eligible if:

  • dementia,osteoporosis, history of fragility fracture
  • history of weight loss surgery of any type
  • taking weight loss or bone acting medications
  • life-threatening illnesses
  • elective surgery in the next six months
