Young Adult Cancer Survivors Healthy Eating and Active Lifestyle Study

We are doing this study to test a behavioral lifestyle program designed specifically for adolescent and young adult cancer survivors. Study participants will use a smartphone app and Fitbit activity tracker to help them develop healthier habits.

  • 18 years ~ 39 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

What will be asked of you

If you participate in this study, you will receive a Fitbit activity tracker and access to the study app. You will be asked to complete online questionnaires 3 times. The entire 3-month program can be completed online.

4 months

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • Diagnosed with first invasive cancer between the ages of 15-39 years old
  • Within 10 years of diagnosis with no evidence of progressive disease or second primary cancers
  • Completed active cancer directed therapy (cytotoxic chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and/or definitive surgical intervention) at least six months prior to enrollment, except may be receiving "maintenance"
  • No pre-existing medical conditions(s) that preclude adherence to an unsupervised exercise program
  • Not currently meeting guideline recommendations of 150 MVPA minutes/week (self-report) and guideline recommendations for fruit and vegetable consumption

Not eligible if:

  • History of heart attack or stroke within past 6 months
  • Untreated hypertension, hyperlipidemia, or diabetes, unless permission is provided by your health care provider
  • Health problems which preclude ability to walk for physical activity
  • Plans for major surgery (e.g., breast reconstruction) during the study time frame
  • Current participation in another physical activity or weight control program
