Eating Disorders Genetics Study

The purpose of this study is to better understand genetic, behavioral, and medical factors that might be related to eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa (AN), atypical anorexia nervosa (AAN), bulimia nervosa (BN), binge-eating disorder (BED), and avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID).

What will be asked of you

You will first answer a Screening Questionnaire about your eating behaviors. Your answers will determine whether this study is a good fit for you. If the study is a good fit, we will ask you to submit a Saliva ("Spit") Sample, which we will mail to you. We will also ask you to answer the Core Questionnaires, which ask about eating and body image, and the Supplementary Questionnaires, which ask about is about eating, mental and physical health, and behavior. This study can be completed from home. You can leave and come back to the questionnaires so you don't have to do them all at one time.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • If you think you may have ever had anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, atypical anorexia nervosa, or avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID)
  • If you live in the US or Puerto Rico
  • If you are at least 18 years old
  • You are willing to give a saliva sample

Not eligible if:

  • None

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • You have never had an eating disorder or experienced eating disorder symptoms

Not eligible if:

  • None
