Vision, Attention, and Walking with Parkinson Disease

People with Parkinson disease demonstrate small movement when beginning walking. These small movements are linked to decreased efficiency and increased risk for falls. The purpose of this study is to learn more about the effects of vision and attention on the ability to start walking for people with and without Parkinson disease.

What will be asked of you

This single session will take approximately 1.5 hours. It will include a memory test and some walking tests. The walking test will use a pressure sensor mat and small sensors wrapped around your arms, legs, and trunk. We will ask you to walk without changes to your vision as well as under conditions that block part of your vision, all of your vision, and add visual distractions to the environment. You will complete these conditions both with and without the addition of a memory task where you will be given numbers to recall.
