M. Avium Complex (MAC) Treatment Study for Pulmonary Infections

In this study, we want to compare two common treatments to learn how well they work and if there are any side effects when used to treat M. Avium Complex (MAC) pulmonary infections. The two regimens being compared are Azithromycin/Ethambutol vs Azithromycin/Ethambutol/Rifampin

What will be asked of you

During this study, you will be followed remotely by our study staff as we collect data from the testing (lab results, CT scans, breathing tests, etc.) and notes from the doctor treating you. You will also complete 4 sets of questionnaires throughout the study (either online or in person) about your symptoms, medication side effects, and quality of life.

Incentives

Up to $145 for completion of study questionnaires

12 Months

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • You have been diagnosed with M. Avium Complex Pulmonary Disease/Infection

Not eligible if:

  • Are already receiving antibiotic treatment for your M. Avium Complex Infection
  • You have a diagnosis of cystic fibrosis (CF)
  • You have a diagnosis of HIV/AIDS
  • You have ever received an organ transplant
