ACL Research Study

The primary purpose of this research study is to better understand the risk factors for secondary ACL injuries. The findings from this research will be used to develop a predictive model that can better assess secondary ACL injury risk and ultimately, can be used to inform clinical return to sport decisions.

What will be asked of you

This one-time study visit will last approximately 90 minutes and consist of thigh muscle strength testing and double and single leg hop performance using wearable insoles in your shoes. You will then be asked to complete questionnaires about your knee and daily activities. Upon completion of the initial visit, you will receive $50 followed by $15 for each monthly follow-up questionnaires over the course of 18 months.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • you have undergone a primary ACL reconstruction
  • you are between the ages of 13 and 25 years old
  • you have been cleared by your surgeon to return to full sport participation

Not eligible if:

  • you have not had an ACL reconstruction
  • you are not between the ages of 13 and 25 years
  • you have not been cleared by your surgeon to return to full sport participation
  • you have had more than one ACL reconstruction
  • you have experienced post-operative complications that required additional surgical intervention
