Alcohol and Inflammation Study

In this study we want to find out how much alcohol people drink every day affects if someone gets sick more easily. We want to see if this is different in people who drink different amounts or those who have a problem with alcohol.

Age & Gender

  • 21 years ~ 44 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

  • Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)

What will be asked of you

At the baseline visit, you will meet with a member of the study team to fill out surveys and collect body composition measures (dual x-ray absorptiometry scan). If you drink alcohol, you will wear an alcohol monitor during your daily life for 2 weeks. All participants will complete two brief surveys each day for 2 weeks. The study also involves a single blood draw.

Incentives

Up to $65. , Body composition data from the DEXA scan

1 hour and 45 minutes across no more than 21 days.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • You drink alcohol
  • You own an Apple iPhone 6S or newer (iOS 11 compatible)
  • You are willing to download and use two free smartphone apps

Not eligible if:

  • You have a current or past history of cardiovascular (heart) disease
  • You have a current or past history of metabolic disease (e.g., diabetes, hypo/hyperthyroidism)
  • You have a current or past history of cancer
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have a fear of needles or blood draws

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • You don't drink alcohol
  • You are willing to download and use one free smartphone

Not eligible if:

  • You have a current or past history of alcohol use disorder
  • You have a current or past history of cardiovascular (heart) disease or cancer
  • You have a current or past history of metabolic disease (e.g., diabetes, hypo/hyperthyroidism)
  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have a fear of needles or blood draws
