Alcohol Behavior Study

In this study, we want to see how people's bodies react to alcohol in the lab and outside of it. We want to examine responses to alcohol and drinking behavior in people who drink alcohol regularly.

Age & Gender

  • 21 years ~ 44 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)
  • Weekend hours, if needed

Location

North Carolina (Alamance, Caswell, Chatham, Durham, Graham, Orange, Person, Wake)

What will be asked of you

At two in-lab visits, you will take a dietary supplement and drink alcohol, then answer questionnaires. The study also involves wearing an alcohol wrist monitor for 7 days, blood draws, fingerpricks, and a DEXA body scan.

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • You drink alcohol regularly
  • You have a BMI 21-30 kg/m2
  • You own an iPhone with Apple iOS 6 or higher

Not eligible if:

  • You are seeking treatment for alcohol use disorder or actively trying to cut down on your drinking
  • You currently use GLP-1 medication or weight control medication
  • You have a lifetime diagnosis of severe mental illness
  • You are pregnant, nursing, trying to become pregnant
