Brain Imaging and Stimulation Study

We are interested in understanding how alcohol use affects the brain. We will be using fMRI, EEG, and non-invasive neurostimulation to look at how different patterns of drinking are reflected in brain activity.

Age & Gender

  • 22 years ~ 50 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)
  • Weekend hours, if needed

Location

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

This study will involve completion of a computerized task, two fMRI scans, EEG recording, and non-invasive neurostimulation. You will also be asked to complete questionnaires and small blood, saliva, and urine samples will be collected.

Incentives

$15/hour + task performance bonuses + study completion bonus

Total length of participation:
3 sessions, each lasting between 2-5 hours. Can be completed in one week or less.

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • Are fluent in English
  • Have a high school diploma or GED
  • Are medically healthy

Not eligible if:

  • Have a history of brain surgery or brain injury
  • Have a family history of epilepsy
  • Have any history of ADHD or ADD
  • Have any history of psychosis
  • Are pregnant
