Discrimination and Pregnancy Study

In this study, we want to find out if pregnant women who are mistreated because of their sex or race/ethnicity have health problems. We want to see if this unfair treatment is linked to their health problems. We also want to prevent high blood pressure and give better care to pregnant women.

Age & Gender

  • 18 years ~ 45 years
  • Female

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Visits can be combined with regular clinical appointments

What will be asked of you

The study involves 3 visits (1 in person, 2 over Zoom). Throughout the study, you will wear a wrist sensor and answer some questionnaires. Other information will be obtained from your medical record.

~1-2 weeks

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • You have a pregnancy with one baby
  • You are willing to wear a Garmin device
  • You are 14-18 weeks pregnant, as confirmed by ultrasound or menstrual period

Not eligible if:

  • You have multiple gestation (after 14 weeks of gestation)
  • You have fetal major structural or chromosomal abnormality
  • You have renal disease (defined as Creatinine >1.5mg/dL)
  • You have a thyroid disease requiring medical treatment
  • You currently have or had a history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, or suspected fetal growth restriction
