Liver Cancer Screening Study

The purpose of this research is to compare the effectiveness of two liver cancer screening methods (ultrasound-based versus biomarker-based screening )to detect liver cancer at an early stage. Finding liver cancer early is important to increase the chances of getting treatment and decreasing the risk of dying from cancer.

Age & Gender

  • 18 years ~ 85 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Visits can be combined with regular clinical appointments

Location

North Carolina (Statewide), South Carolina, Virginia

What will be asked of you

At each visit, you will meet with a member of the study team and fill out questionnaires, provide blood samples, and may need ultrasound imaging.

Total length of participation:
10 years

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • Liver cirrhosis or chronic hepatitis B
  • Eligible for liver cancer surveillance
  • Able to provide informed consent

Not eligible if:

  • History of hepatocellular carcinoma or cholangiocarcinoma
  • History of solid organ transplantation
  • Actively listed for liver transplantation
  • Known pregnancy
