The ARC Study

The purpose of this research study is to use advanced imaging techniques to better understand how the cerebellum (a part of the brain) develops during adolescence and to investigate changes in the cerebellum in people with cerebellar disorders. The study will also develop machine-learning methods to detect and analyze changes in the cerebellum over time.

What will be asked of you

If you choose to participate in this study, you will be required to visit the Biomedical Research Imaging Center (BRIC) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine (UNC). During this visit, you will undergo two MRI brain scans: one on a 3 Tesla MRI scanner and another on a 7 Tesla MRI scanner. There will be no medication or radiation used for the MRI scans.

Incentives

$40 gift card per completed MRI Scan and an additional $20 gift card for completing both MRI scan sessions.

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

You were assigned female at birth
You are 14, 16, 19 or 21 years old
You have not had an abnormality in previous MR Imaging
Not currently pregnant

Not eligible if:

You were not assigned female at birth
You are under 14 years old
You have had an abnormality seen in previous MR imaging
You are unable to complete the MRI scan or have reasons not to have a MRI scan (Examples: cardiac pacemaker or fear of enclosed spaces)
You are currently pregnant
