To conduct a proof of concept study and assess the feasibility and acceptability of implementing psychological skills training for individuals undergoing rotator cuff repair surgery.
Participants will meet with study personnel prior to undergoing rotator cuff surgery for their initial visit. After determining eligibility and informed consent, participants will complete demographics questionnaire and patient reported outcomes related to their shoulder, pain, sleep and psychosocial functioning. Participants will receive education about rotator cuff surgery and expected outcomes from study personnel and work to set goals with study personnel for their recovery. After surgery, participants will meet with study personnel via videoconferencing platform for 30 minutes-1 hour one time per week for 4 weeks to discuss progress in recovery and to discuss underlying thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes related to treatment expectations regarding PT and care. After 4 weeks, participants will meet with study personnel to complete post-assessment visit where they will complete battery of questionnaires from initial visit, as well as feasibility, acceptability, and appropriateness questionnaires about the psychological skills training pilot intervention.
