Sitting and Movement Study

In this study, we look at how much people sit in their daily lives. We want to find ways to help people sit less, move more, and lower their chances of getting heart disease and diabetes.

Age & Gender

  • 30 years ~ 60 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Location

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

This study involves wearing activity devices, filling out surveys, and an interview (~45 minutes). This study requires no in-person lab visits.

Up to $370 in gift cards (also redeemable as a debit card), A personalized summary of your sitting, physical activity, and sleep habits

Total length of participation:
8 days at 4 different timepoints over the course of a year

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • You exercise less than 90 minutes per week
  • You sit for more than 8 hours most days
  • You are able to walk 4 blocks and climb 2 flights of stairs
  • You can regularly access your cell phone on weekdays and weekends
  • You are between 30 to 60 years of age

Not eligible if:

  • You have recent (less than 1 year) history of heart disease
  • You have a systolic blood pressure greater than or equal to 160 mmHg or a diastolic blood pressure greater than or equal to 100 mmHg
  • You take medicine to lower blood pressure or to control blood sugar
  • You are a smoker
  • You plan to make significant lifestyle changes in the next year (e.g., dieting, weight loss or exercise program)
