Type 2 Diabetes Weight Loss Study

To evaluate the effect of a new combination of medications on body weight and body fat mass in people with type 2 diabetes and overweight/obesity.

  • 18 years ~ 75 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

What will be asked of you

At each visit, you will meet with a member of the study team and answer questions about your health. You will be asked to complete diaries, answer questionnaires, measure your blood sugar at home, work with a registered dietitian, and follow the instructions of the study doctor. The study also involves fasting blood draws, EKGs, MRIs, DEXA scans, bioimpedance analysis, grip strength tests, 12-step stair climb tests, wearing an activity tracker, and willingness to inject yourself with the study medications weekly.

About 14 months

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • you have had type 2 diabetes for at least 6 months
  • your HbA1c is at least 7.5%
  • your diabetes is managed with diet and exercise alone or with metformin with or without an SGLT-2 inhibitor (ex: Farxiga, Jardiance, Invokana)
  • your BMI is at least 27 kg/m2
  • your body weight has been stable for the past 3 months

Not eligible if:

  • you have had weight loss surgery or procedure
  • you have type 1 diabetes, LADA, or have been hospitalized for diabetes in the past 6 months
  • you have taken any medications for diabetes or weight loss other than metformin or an SGLT-2 inhibitor in the last 3 months
  • you can't tell when your blood sugar is low
  • you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, planning to get pregnant, or are unwilling to follow the study's contraceptive guidance
