Study on Brain Waves and Muscle Movement After Stroke

We are doing a study to learn how the brain and muscles work together after a person has a stroke. We want to find out if a special type of brain stimulation, which doesn't need surgery, can help improve this connection.

Age & Gender

  • 45 years ~ 80 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Weekend hours, if needed

Location

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

We will start with a phone call. This call helps us find out if the study is a good fit for you. If you are eligible, you will be invited for one visit that lasts about three hours. During this visit, we will check your brain and muscle activity, give you some simple movement tests, and use gentle brain stimulation.

Incentives

If you complete the study, you will receive $100 cash., We will pay you back for parking expenses.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • Diagnosis of stroke that occurred at least 6 months ago
  • Weakness in your hand but still able to make a fist

Not eligible if:

  • No diagnosis of stroke
  • Pregnant
  • History of prior stroke
  • Cerebellar stroke
  • No upper-extremity motor deficit
