Functional Effects of Eating Disorders

The purpose of this study is to gather insight directly from people with eating disorders or who have cared for someone with an eating disorder about the ways the eating disorder has impacted areas of their life including education, work, social relationships, and participation in recreational or community activities.

What will be asked of you

You will participate in a 45-minute virtual interview with a member of the study team. With your permission, the interview will be audio recorded to ensure accuracy of our data collection. During the interview, you will be asked questions about the way that your or your loved one's eating disorder has impacted several aspects of life including employment, education, social relationships, family and romantic relationships, and participation in other activities such as sports, volunteer activities, engagement with religious or community groups. After we have completed all of our interviews and analyze our data, we may contact you to ask for your feedback on a summary of our findings.

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • You have or had an eating disorder (ED) including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, ARFID, or OSFED
  • Your ability to function in school, work, or relationships with significantly impacted by the ED.
  • You have a loved one who had or has an ED.
  • You or your loved one are or were over 18.

Not eligible if:

  • You were under 18 for the entire time you had an eating disorder.
