Body Composition and Metabolic Health In Asian Individuals

The purpose of this research study is to measure metabolic health and body composition in East, South and Southeast Asian individuals to see how they are related.

Age & Gender

  • 18 years ~ 35 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

Visit Availability

  • Standard business hours (M-F, 8-5)
  • Extended hours (M-F, early morning or evening)
  • Weekend hours, if needed

Location

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

Your participation will include: - One 1.5-2hr study visit to the HEAL Laboratory on the UNC-CH Campus  -Body composition assessments (fat mass, %body fat, muscle mass, bone health)  -Resting metabolic rate measurement -Submaximal exercise test -Questionnaires about diet, sleep, and physical activity 

Incentives

You will receive a print out of your body composition and resting metabolic rate masurements.

Looking for Healthy Volunteers

Requirements for healthy volunteers are different than for those with a specific condition. If you are interested in becoming a healthy volunteer for this study, use the below categories to determine if you are able to participate.

Able to participate:

  • you are 18-35 yrs old
  • identify as East, South or Southeast Aasian
  • you exercise 2 times or more a week

Not eligible if:

  • you take medication that alters body composition or metabolism
  • you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
  • you are a competitive athlete or engage in >150 min of vigorous exercise per week
  • you have been told you should not exercise
