Social Media Use and Iranian Immigrants

This study explores how Iranian immigrant women aged 35-50 use social media and how it shapes their understanding of identity, belonging, and community in Western countries.

What will be asked of you

Participants will be asked to complete a short online questionnaire (about 10-15 minutes) related to their experiences with language, culture, and social media. Some participants may be invited to a 30-45-minute virtual interview via Zoom to explore their experiences in more depth. Participation is entirely voluntary, and participants can skip any questions they are not comfortable answering.

Total length of participation:
1-2 hours

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • Iranian women between the ages of 35 and 50
  • Have immigrated to the United States in the last 10 years
  • Use social media (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, or Telegram)
  • Able to communicate in either English or Persian
  • Willing to share their experiences in a confidential setting

Not eligible if:

  • Not currently living in the U.S.
  • Under 35 or over 50
  • Do not use social media
  • Unable to give informed consent
  • Not comfortable with either English or Persian
