Characterizing ACL-Related Fear

The purpose of this study is to characterize injury-related fear trajectories, quantitatively and qualitatively, in patients after Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) reconstruction.

Age & Gender

  • 14 years ~ 35 years
  • Male, Female, Gender Inclusive

North Carolina (Statewide)

What will be asked of you

If you agree to participate in our research study, you will be asked to complete a series of surveys about your demographic information, knee function, and any anxiety or fear you may be experiencing related to your ACL. You will be asked to to complete these at your post-operative appointment and at 2-, 4-, 6-, and 9-months after your reconstruction. You may also be asked to participate in an interview at the 9-month time point.

9 months

Looking for Specific Volunteers

Able to participate:

  • Current ACL reconstruction patient (have recently had or will soon have a reconstruction)
  • 14-35 years old
  • Injured ACL playing or training for sport

Not eligible if:

  • You have not received and will not receive an ACL reconstruction
  • Younger than 14 or older than 35
  • History of secondary ACL injury to same knee or opposite knee
  • Had additional repairs, other than meniscal, during ACL reconstruction
