The research team from the Carolina Global Breastfeeding Institute is conducting a study on the implementation of IYCF-E in Western North Carolina (WNC) after Hurricane Helene. This research aims to share lessons learned and improve the quality of future relief efforts through: 1) sharing lived experiences; 2) assessing effectiveness of training; and 3) informing the state- and national-level policy recommendations for incorporating Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) evidence-based practices.
To compare the prevalence, severity, and timing of chronic health conditions (CHC) in a cohort of patients with DS-AL (Down Syndrome Acute Leukemia) with age-comparable DS individuals that have no cancer history. Our secondary objectives will compare NP (Neuro-Psychological) and health-related quality of life outcomes in survivors of DS-AL compared with age-comparable DS individuals with no cancer history, and will identify risk determinants of CHC and NP late effects among survivors of DS-AL.
The purpose of this research study is to determine the cause and mechanism of alpha-gal mammalian meat allergy. Alpha-gal is a novel food allergy that we have only come to recognize in recent years. It seems to preferentially affect people who reside in certain geographic areas, with the southeastern US (including North Carolina) being one.
This study aims to understand how adults who have completed a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail planned for their thru-hike and adjusted their plans in response to different situations on the trail.
We will collect one more round of data from participants >= 45 years and analyze factors associated with aging and cognitive function.
This study will ask parents who homeschool their high school-age children to provide information about how these students learn information literacy skills (specifically, how to find and evaluate sources). It seeks to better understand common information literacy practices and compare how information literacy is taught among different groups of homeschoolers in order to strengthen our understanding of how high schoolers encounter this important skill.
EGID Partners is an online cohort of patients with eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs), like eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), eosinophilic gastritic (EG), eosinophilic gastroenteritis (EGE), and/or eosinophilic colitis (EC). It is a way to conduct important clinical research through surveys, and by filling out the initial survey, as well as follow-up surveys every 6 months, you can help answer important questions about living with EGIDs. We are also looking for people without EGIDs to provide information as well, so we can make comparisons between those do and don't have EGIDs. Adults as well as parents/caregivers of children are eligible. Find out more at www.egidpartners.org
The purpose of this study is to examine how brain function and behavior interact in the human brain using electroencephalography (EEG), a brain imaging tool that does not require surgery. We are recruiting two groups of individuals: 1.) those that experienced a stroke and 2.) those that have not experienced a stroke.
We want to know how people learn words in a language that is unfamiliar to them.
Compare two surgical procedures for treatment of trichiasis to see which one has better outcomes.
