Entac_Device Post Op Ileus trial

The purpose of this research is to study the performance of a device called PrevisEA, an investigational device not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This research is sponsored by the maker of the PrevisEA device, Entac Medical Inc. This device listens to and records abdominal sounds which provides data that can help predict gastrointestinal impairment (GII). GII is a condition that is defined as the failure of oral re-feeding after abdominal surgery. This happens when any of the following events happen beyond 24-hours after abdominal surgery; • Vomiting • The need for your doctor to reverse the diet • The need for your doctor to place a nasogastric (NG) tube in you. A NG tube is a flexible rubber or plastic tube that is placed through the nose and down into the stomach. It can be used to carry food directly to the stomach.

Teachers Voices on PD and Coaching

This research study aims to explore how elementary teachers describe high-quality professional development and mathematics coaching. This study intends to identify what teachers consider to be the key characteristics of high-quality professional development and examine how the key characteristics of mathematics coaching identified by the teachers align with the characteristics of high-quality professional development described by the literature. Finally, the study seeks to assess the extent of how teachers perceive math coaching as high-quality professional development. This study is important because it can provide insights into the perceptions and experiences of elementary teachers regarding high-quality professional development and mathematics coaching, and it can help inform the design and implementation of effective professional development programs for elementary teachers.

Improving clinic access for people with a disability

The purpose of this study is to identify barriers to health care access for people with a disability. In this first phase of the study, we are concentrating on the Center for Rehabilitation Care at UNC. We are conducting focus groups with people familiar with the clinic to find out what problems they are encountering with making appointments, getting to the clinic, communicating with staff and doctors, and feeling respected and appreciated. Based on the focus group information, we will design and test a survey.

Agricultural extension in the southeastern United States and Colombia

This preliminary fieldwork will allow me to assess site feasibility in Georgia, North Carolina, and Colombia for an ethnography of agricultural intermediaries and will shape my future dissertation project and course of studies. The research seeks to expand understandings of extension, an agricultural development model characterized by top-down dissemination of university-based research. Studying how extension employees navigate between their bureaucratic organizations and the farmers they serve -- noting who is considered an expert, how knowledge and technology are produced, and who is involved in the process (and under what circumstances) -- has potential implications for a more just food system.
